When I picked this song, I immediately had flashbacks of highschool days, in other words, the MTV days once again. My memory of this song’s music video is very vivid because I remember that it used to be one of my favorites. Just imagine four beautiful gals with different personalities dancing in the bar (on top of the table!) and offering drinks to their customers with flair. And then LeAnn Rimes steps in to give her powerful vocals that fit the atmosphere perfectly. :D
I liked the song before I liked the movie. My friend lent me her copy of “Coyote Ugly” and when I saw it, I loved the song more. It’s just so dancy (is there such word??) and catchy. ^^
When I was still an MTV fanatic (read: when I’m in the room, the TV is fixed to the MTV channel and I have their daily schedule memorized and hitlists recorded) and I found out that the Irish band The Corrs were to perform in MTV Unplugged, I was elated. The Corrs is probably one of my most favorite bands of all time because of their great tunes and equally superb lyrics.
“No Frontiers” is one of the songs included in their Unplugged playlist. I tried researching on the net if this song was already produced earlier but I couldn’t find it in their past albums so I’m assuming that this song was made for their MTV Unplugged album (along with “Radio” which became their promotional single for the album). Anyway, this is a very relaxing song; the girls’ voices are accompanied solely by the piano. The lyrics are very inspiring too. Enjoy~
Yatta, a rock song, lol. When I hear about Aerosmith, I am bombarded with nostalgic images of high school life, hahaha. Anyway, I like most of the songs that Aersomith popularized (like "Pink", that's one cute song, lol) but "Hole in My Soul" is definitely my top favorite.
Probably, one of the more emotional-type songs by this band, "Hole in My Soul" talks about a persona who got heartbroken and emotionally depressed. He feels that there is a big void left in his heart - thus the title "hole in my soul".
I think the music video for this song was quite good and suitable too. It featured a nerdy guy who kept on trying to find the girl who is right for him. He is accompanied by an equally nerdy girl who listens and silently watches his futile attempts. The guy even went as far as to build a machine to produce his "perfect girl". Sadly, all of these inventions were a failure. At the end of the video, he realizes that it was the nerdy girl who was the perfect match for him. ^_^ Haha, cute, ne? :)
If there were songs that are considered timeless, I'd put this song on the list. Even after all these years, I still listen to it and I still love it. ^_^
Obviously, people would think of the famous American sitcom "Friends" when they hear this song. I also loved the series and watched it whenever I had time. The music video was quite amusing too. :D
I think the nice and inspirational message of this song about friendship appealed to me. Plus that dancy upbeat tune. Plus all that nostalgic feel. Ultimately, it's an all-time favorite song. ^^
Okay, here's another American Idol singer, lol. Honestly, I don't know very much about Kelly Clarkson because I wasn't very aware of the competition at that time. I only heard her for the first time when I saw her video of "A Moment Like This". ^^;;
In my opinion, Carrie Underwood's voice is much better than Kelly's in terms of clearness, power and emotion. Still, I think the closest that I got to liking Kelly Clarkson is her song "Because of You" which became quite an LSS to me for a long time. I think it's a good song, and perhaps suitable for her voice charactetistics. :)
Honestly, I had a hard time choosing who to root for during the 4th season of American Idol because in my opinion, both Carrie and Bo performed marvelously. Still, someone had to win. ^^;;
Carrie looks like a stereotype Barbie blonde woman on the surface but her voice can easily blow you away. She sings clearly and with minimal techniques and her songs come out beautifully. I still remember her rendition of Heart's "Alone", it was so goosebumps-worthy. :D
"Jesus Take the Wheel" is Carrie's first single after winning the competition and you can hear the country-ish influence over the song. Carrie delivers it powerfully and clearly. The story of the song is quite sad and is also good for reflecting and realizing how we live our lives.
Before this song, I first heard about Coco Lee through her song "Before I Fall in Love" for the movie "Runaway Bride". I thought it was a nice song. Later on, I got to see the video "A Love Before Time" and even though I haven't seen "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (until now, I haven't seen it, my copy is English dubbed, erk), I kind of fell in love with it.
I feel that Coco Lee's voice is kind of thin and cold (in a good way). Though and Asian, she's good in English singing.
All throughout the song, you'd feel that Chinese-y effect. And Coco Lee's voice easily complements it. Ah, nostalgic. I remember liking this song back when I was still in high school. ^^
